Tutor               : Andrew

Classroom Learning Outcome:

By the end of the lesson, lecturers will be able to:
● encourage learner autonomy and independent learning by assisting students to
develop learning strategies such as predicting skills, risk taking, drafting and etc.
Suggested Activities:
Before Learning

·         Lecturer asks students to identify and match terms used for learning strategies with their correct definitions.
Learning Strategies:
  1. Listening Strategy Use
  2. Vocabulary Strategy Use
  3. Speaking Strategy Use
  4. Reading Strategy Use
  5. Writing Strategy Use
6.    Strategic Use of Translation
While Learning (Learning Strategies)
·         Lecturer introduces Language Strategy Use Survey developed by D.Cohen, Rebecca L.Oxford and Julie C.Chi and asks students to answer it to find out more about their preferred language learning strategies.

Language Strategy Use Survey
Post Learning
·         Lecturer asks students to complete task one to enhance their understanding on What Strategies do they use to learn new subject.
Task 1

Teaching Tips:
From the various activities on learning strategies conducted in the session, I would mostly recommend to lecturers to use Task 1 (What Strategies Do Students Use to Learn A New Subject) as an activity where students would be able to identify and choose several learning strategies which might suit them well.
In this activity students will have to identify appropriate learning strategies to be included in the three (3) different phases of learning namely BEFORE, DURING and AFTER. By identifying these strategies and match them to the correct phase will allow students to think of what strategies that they will use in their learning. The wide ranges of strategies offered basically help students to have many chances to experiment with them.

Reflection:
There are many study skills that can increase student performance such as note taking and planning. Conclusively, learning strategies are the ways of how students choose to learn the subject matter (content). Therefore it would be crucial for a lecturer to promote learning strategies and let students choose their preferable strategies for language improvement.
