Suggested Activities

Listening & Note-taking

Instructions :

1) Ask students to try to define/explain all the words in the word rose. They should be able to do this better than before having had lots of input through the reading and the listening texts.
2) Then, instruct ‘students’ to note the expressions down with a definition or an example sentence to illustrate meaning.
3) Ask students to listen the listening task-sheet. (This also appears in Worksheet task 1) and write numbers 1-6 in the left hand column to note the order of the audit stages.
4) Next, go through the answers with students.

Reflection
From my point of view, I personally think that we as English teachers or lecturers have been using this teaching strategy especially for teaching listening skills. The idea of using Listening and Note Taking strategy is very useful because it exposes us to different kinds of learning skills that are useful for learners in English learning situations. This strategy also encourages students to learn related professional vocabulary in a communicative way via peer-teaching.

The Word Rose is indeed an interesting way to introduce new vocabulary to students. It will be useful for them as we could prepare the materials with different levels of proficiency as it can be modified according to their field of studies.
